Eid Mubarak! Reflections from Our Founder’s Eid Al-Fitr Message

Eid Mubarak to our Australian International Islamic College (AIIC) & Qalam Group of Institutions community!

As the blessed month of Ramadan drew to a close, our Founder, His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Quddoos Azhari, delivered a powerful Eid Al-Fitr message on March 31, 2025 (1 Shawwal 1446) right here at AIIC. The Khutba (sermon) provided profound reflections for us all as we transition from a month of fasting and devotion.

Lessons from Ramadan Amidst Global Challenges

His Eminence reminded us that while we were blessed to observe Ramadan, many of our brothers and sisters globally, particularly in places like Gaza and Sudan, faced immense suffering, lacking basic necessities for Suhoor and Iftaar. This Ramadan also saw the continuation of Islamophobia and misinformation. These challenges highlight a crucial lesson: the need to overcome our own weaknesses, particularly the lack of unity and cohesion within the Ummah.

The Call for Unity and Authentic Representation

A central theme was the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) warning about a time when nations would conspire against Muslims, not because of small numbers, but because of internal weakness, love for worldly things, and fear of death, rendering the community like “froth… washed by a torrent”. His Eminence stressed that internal division, misrepresentation, and lack of knowledge are significant challenges. It is vital, therefore, to seek knowledge from qualified sources and embody the true, beautiful teachings of Islam in our conduct. Our actions, words, and even our friendships reflect our character and faith.

Our Role in Australia: Living Islam, Inviting to Goodness

The Khutba posed a thought-provoking question: Why has Allah placed us in Australia? While we enjoy safety, security, and the freedom to practice Islam with dignity, our purpose extends beyond personal benefit. We have a responsibility to give back to this country by living as exemplary Muslims and inviting others to understand Islam through wisdom, truth, and beautiful conduct (Da’wa). This includes reaching out with kindness, even starting with a simple smile. His Eminence likened the believer to a bee: always consuming good (Halal), producing good (like honey, bringing healing and benefit), and never causing harm.

Moving Forward Post-Ramadan

As we leave Ramadan, the challenge is to maintain the positive habits we developed – continued prayer, reading the Qur’an, punctuality in Salat, charity, community connection, and reflecting on our condition. Unity remains paramount, achieved by holding fast to the guidance of Allah.

His Eminence concluded with essential reminders: ensuring Zakat and Fitra obligations are met, fasting the six recommended days of Shawwal, cherishing family ties, giving gifts, and seeking reconciliation.

Let us take these valuable lessons to heart, striving to be beacons of goodness, unity, and authentic faith in our community and the wider Australian society.

Eid Mubarak once again!
